Field notes

Is it free to press my website?

Yes — completely. Pressing your site into the Sprig herbarium is free, with no fee now and none later. Open the form, enter your URL, choose a sheet, and you are mounted.

What is Sprig?

Sprig is a free web herbarium: a hand-pressed directory of 797 websites across 22 sheets. A person presses each site by hand, so you can read the open web like a collection instead of an algorithm.

How are sites organised?

By sheet. Every site is mounted onto one of 22 sheets — from software to travel — so related cuttings sit together and are easy to read.

How do I press my site?

Go to the press page, enter your site’s URL, choose the sheet that fits, and submit. If you leave the description blank we’ll fetch one for you. It takes under a minute.

Do you review submissions?

We do. New cuttings are read by a person before they’re pressed, and we tend the sheets now and then to lift links that have withered offline.

About the herbarium

Sprig is a free web herbarium — a hand-pressed collection of the open web. We mount working websites across twenty-two sheets, pressing each one by hand rather than by algorithm.

There is nothing to install and nothing to pay. Open a sheet, read the cuttings, and follow the ones that fit. When you run a site of your own, you can press it into the herbarium in under a minute — free, and free to stay.

It is search kept like a collection: instead of a blank box and a billion guesses, you get a small, legible sheet that a person actually tends.
